Whether you own a Lumia 950/950XL/550, or plan to buy one, Microsoft is pushing out a new update/build to all Lumia 550, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL handsets, whether they are part of the Insider program or not, which is actually pretty awesome. The build number is the same as the latest Insider Build, which suggests a lot of performance improvements and bug fixes, over the OBE.

Another interesting thing to note is , Microsoft is no longer waiting for carriers to approve their software, which is of course a great move. What it means? You will get the Windows 10 OTA update on your Lumia as soon as Microsoft pushes it, just like store updates, I would say. Be patient!

Here is what the build 10586.29 brings (over 10586.0)
  • You will see additional improvements in upgrade experience, including devices with limited free space, map rendering on update, and RCS enabled device settings.
  • Improved application backwards compatibility for Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight applications.
  • Edge performance and stability has been improved.  Auto-completion has been updated to allow user to more easily edit the end of the URL in the address bar.
  • Additional Bluetooth stability improvements.
  • We have resolve issues on switching the active cellular connectivity profile on Dual SIM devices.
  • Data profiles are now correctly restored in the out of box experience that would prevent some devices from sending or receiving MMS messages.

The update is available to download and you can check for updates in settings > update and recovery > phone update, to see if it is available for you right now.

What do you think of the latest update? and the Microsoft's strategy to bypass carrier approvals for update? Do tell us in the comments below.
